Close to Mae Hong Son city is a refugee village of the Myanmar Kayan or Padaung people who fled from their villages near Lake Inle during fighting of the Myanmar army with Karen insurgent.

The women and girls in this village are famous for their long neck with brass coils which looking like rings wound around. They say its to remember to their ancestors, mythical naga snakes.

It is necessary to mention that the people in this Karen refugee villages are not living worst than the normal Thai people of that rural area.
