is
a hidden gem in terms of gorgeous islands, great beaches and
beautiful beach resorts. There are exotic islands in emerald
green tropical water of the Andaman Sea. A beach can be found everywhere either at the main coast
or at many islands. Flights to Trang
come in every day via Bangkok and nearby Krabi International
Airport, it’s mainly Thai Airways via
Bangkok Airport and Tiger
Airways via Singapore's
Changi Airport which open
up
Krabi,
Ko Lanta and the other area for the
international passengers.
There is no shortage on hotel and great resorts in this
Andaman Sea archipelago. There are more
than 50 islands. Many traveler mix up this Thai province with the
Tarutao Archipelago and Koh Lipe Thailand which are in Satun Province further down south
west,
that’s Tarutao Thailand.
Plenty of Trang hotels and resorts,
the
best is to travel either via bus
from Bangkok,
Phuket or
Singapore and Malaysia via
Hat Yai
settle the first day at the hotel in the city, get
orientation and sort out your travel options. Just around
the corner of that hotel (about Baht 600,- per night)
is the Tourist Office where any
information is available. At the hotel is also a travel
agent means everything is quick and efficient. When booking
a package at one of the island resorts they will pick
you up at the airport take you to the speed boat and off you
go one of the best known islands is Koh Mook.
Seafood is plenty, beaches are marvelous and
snorkeling and sightseeing tours e.g. Morakot Cave also
called Emerald caves and other
places are outstanding. There is one up market beach hotel
at the south end of Pak Meng beach about
20 km from the city which is very popular by
Thai guys to for a weekend with their second wife or rather
girl friends, it’s the Amari Trang, but this place is very isolated, there is
nothing around. Most
hotels and resorts offer day
trips to other places with the speed boat such as
Ko Lanta,
Phi Phi Islands, Morakot
Cave or Emerald caves or maybe just a ride between the
islands with a longtail boat.
are spots in the ocean
off the southern west coast of Thailand. The
archipelago is about 300 km north of
the the Thailand Malaysian border and about 300 km
south of Phuket. The archipelago offers a perfect
blend of southern Thailand island and beach beauty
with its nature, history and cultural traditions.
One pier is at Pak Meng Beach
and a bigger one at Kantang west of the city. All islands of
the archipelago can easily be reached by longtail
boats, private boats and other bigger boats which
are often sightseeing ships moving between the coast
and the islands, more,
in
southern Thailand with breathtaking pictures
and photos plus videos. There are
kilometers of great beaches along the coast and on the
islands. Weather is also fine even during monsoon
times. There are plenty of beach resorts on the
islands. The best beach resort is at the southern part of Pak Meng
Beach, its the Amari hotel. This beach resort is
very popular by guys from Bangkok who go for a weekend with
their girlfriends without being seen. On the Trang islands
are all kind of other hotels and resorts. There are also
quite cheap hotels and resorts in the archipelago, in general its one of the best sea / beach
vacation
destination in Thailand with marvelous islands such as Koh
Mook if you want to have it quiet. Since the city has its own airport
flights to the province are several every day out of
Bangkok airport.
Flights to are not coming in from
international destinations since this is
not an international airport, only domestic. The closest international
Airports are
Phuket Airport and
Krabi Airport, there are
several flights from Bangkok every day.
Travel from
Phuket
to via
Krabi its a smooth 300 km ride in a very comfortable
bus, there are also other buses from Bangkok to Trang from
the north and from Hat Yai to Trang when coming from the
southern Thailand border from the
Malaysia,
Penang,
Langkawi or
Kuala Lumpur. Buses from
Phuket leave every hour and the bus travel takes about 4-5
hours. Traveling to
Ko Tarutao and the
archipelago is via Satun, there is a coastal road from to Satun.
The city has
a laid back ambience and the Pak Meng
Beach
Koh Mook
area
is about 20km to the west.
To explore the islands
in the archipelago
start either at the north end of Pak Meng Beach, there is a
jetty with long tail boats, but boats are there only in the
morning and at any weather conditions. A other small harbor to start a
tour is at Kantang south of Pak Meng. Actually all bigger boats or vessels above long tail
boat size start from there to the
islands.
Trang
pictures show the most exciting drop in the ocean of Asia. The
little islands and islets have one thing in common,
beautiful islands and beaches bringing an
almost paradise feeling. The Islands are a great favorite with honeymooners, every
year underwater marriages are done by scuba diving
enthusiasts just off the islands. Hundreds of
holiday-makers are coming in from all over the world to
enjoy the mild temperature of a endless summer,
more.
The Archipelago is relatively close to Phuket and Krabi,
it’s a real hidden gem with emerald waters and no rush. In
the archipelago are around 50 islands, small and big.
The archipelago is just in front of the endless beach which
starts with the Pak Meng Beach about 15 km west of Trang
city and ends about 20 km further south. The archipelago is
a perfect mixture of beautiful islands, some sea caves and
bizarre limestone formations.
This province in
southern Thailand is far away of
the path where the usual tourists run, its s real secret of
southern Thailand, but on the other hand nightlife is almost
zero, absolute no match to
Phuket nightlife. There are plenty of hotels, beach
resorts, restaurants and a very relaxed atmosphere. All
hotels on the islands are low key resorts,
means buildings not higher than the palm trees, no nightlife
or similar. Trang city is 300 km south east of Phuket but with a
totally different tourism philosophy.
Lovely long and short beaches are on the islands,
coral reefs are for nature lovers and several Thailand
National Parks are within a few hours drive. The archipelago has e good infrastructure, ports, and
an airport. The population comprises mainly of Thai, Chinese
and Muslim people of Malay origin.
To travel between the islands within the
archipelago you could use the usual longtail boats or
the speed boat from the hotel. During the year there are
plenty of festivals and other events in the archipelago, means you wont get bored.. Enjoy the
picturesque isles, do some kite surfing, go scuba diving or
snorkeling, there are thousands of colorful fishes waiting
for you.
island and cave vacation
attractions in the kingdom but not
so commercialized like Phuket,
Ko
Samui or Krabi on the western part of Thailand and
Pattaya, Ko Chang and the other islands on the
eastern part of the gulf of Thailand. Snorkeling and scuba
diving is possible. In general verything
is not so developed
Kayaking, paddling or
just simply swimming in the emerald waters makes up
your dream vacation. Naturally this is
first a great beach vacation and could also be just
the right spot for family vacation. Its less an all inclusive vacation
spot, it's more a individual tropical vacation
destination. The place also has a
good reputation for honeymoon vacation, every year
underwater weddings are performed, real romantic
vacation on tropical
island, do some vacation planning using our website.
There is no real wilderness vacation in the province. Bird watching, spa and diving could give
you a real exotic vacation, its also quite cheap.
Koh Mook is one of the
best islands in the archipelago. Some Thailand national
park are around, rent a car for a day or
two and explore the Thailand National Parks. Use our website as a virtual
Thailand travel guide for your tours.
The best place to get
some information in the city is the tourist office on the main street, just
around the corner from the Trang Hotel. They have
the most diverse information and lots of leaflets
available on tours and hotels.
You could also stay
at this hotel at the main square in the city. The hotel is quite cheap, around 600 -
800 baht per night. The hotel is not the newest but has everything needed.
There is even a Thai style massage parlor where the
girls give you a great Thai massage and more, if you
like, The restaurant of the hotel is not very good.
The province islands lie in the Andaman sea just south
of Krabi.
Over forty islands make up the archipelago
of islands and sandy beaches. The
protected waters around the islands
are full of secluded sheltered bays
to hide away in. Hire a long tail
boat and drop your anchor, maybe
spend a night on the beach off the
crystal clear waters of your own
personal paradise.
Pak Meng Beach
provides a great starting point for your vacation.
There are not many first class accommodations,
actually the only top beach resort is the Amari
hotel at the southern end of Pak Meng Beach, but at
the islands are plenty of cheap beach resorts,
hotels, beach cottages and other beach
accommodations, of course as well there are shopping
facilities and restaurants.
You can book all
your tours from any resorts. Within easy reach of
every islands are great
attractions such as Morakot or emerald
cave, coral reefs and limestone islands with great
beaches, snorkeling and scuba diving are a great
experience.
On Koh Mook and
other islands in the archipelago are plenty of
beach hotels, very popular and great holiday spot
with spectacular sandy island beaches and a great
atmosphere created by nature. Koh Mook has
breathtaking views over the Andaman Sea; you can
enjoy the serenity and tranquility of a beautiful
seaside.
This are romantic haven with an exotic
ambiance, the beach hotels are well-designed
structures embedded in a exotic island world. At
Trang City are some karaoke lounges and Thai style
"cafe" with pretty Thai girls.
The Archipelago
is probably the best
kept tourism secret in Thailand with attractive beaches, secluded islands,
hidden beach resorts also for the rather low budget.
Infrastructure is good,
almost everything is functioning and interesting
sightseeing tours and all kind of information is
offered just beside the Trang hotel in the tourist
office. Only a few foreigners are around at
any given time.
The province and city can be reached
from Bangkok by daily flights and via road from
Phuket, Krabi, Bangkok or from
Thailand's southern parts bordering to Malaysia. There is a bus service several
times a day from
Kuala Lumpur to Trang, Krabi
and Phuket and vice versa via Hat Yai. The
Malaysian border is about 250 km to the south.
Trang beaches not far from Trang City
Trang beaches are
excellent, so are the roads and no political problems
such as in the very south of Thailand and is ready
for discovering and exploring.
Trang
history shows
that the city is a trade center
since about 2000
years.
Between the 6 th. and 12 th. century the city was an
important seaport for trade towards the Malay
Peninsular and the Islands of today's
Indonesia. From 600 AD to 1400 AD the city
was under the the Srivijaya empire centered in
Jambi and Palembang on Sumatra. At that time Surat Thani in
southern Thailand was a major center in this empire and
the harbor at Kantang functioned as a transshipping point between Sumatra
and the east coast of southern Thailand,
more.
Today the importance
as a seaport in the Andaman Sea is rather small, the port at
Kantang serves mostly a small fishing fleet and some tourist
sightseeing ships
After arriving at
Trang city
the best start is go to the
tourist office beside the hotel in and book a tour. This is the
best for your first orientation on your dream vacation tour.
It makes sure
you see the interesting places in the archipelago
within a day and you have a good idea after where to go.
On top of it
keeps problems away on your trip not only
because of language problems. After this first sightseeing
tour you are ready to travel the archipelago on your
own.
On a few islands small beach resorts, bungalows or beach huts make
sure there is something for everyone. You should also know
that between Trang City and the beach side at Pak Meng Beach
it's a 40 minute drive over a excellent road.
At the north
end of Pak Meng Beach is a pier where longtail
boats are available in the morning to go anywhere
requested.
The seaside is inhabited by fishing communities, many
Muslim, who migrated from the Malay peninsular in the last
few hundred years. Their villages are around the mouths of
the rivers flowing into the Andaman Sea. Flora
consists of evergreen forest, beach forest, limestone forest
mangrove forest.
From Pak Meng Pier speedboats and
longtail boats could be hired, theoretically. If you go
there everyone shakes the shoulder and tells, me lou, which
means nobody know, they charge 1800 Baht per day if you can
find somebody. That is the main reason why its the best to
book a tour at the beginning, it will safe you time and you wont get upset.
The trip to Kantang is also quite far and there it's the
same situation, everyone just shake the shoulder. Its
totally different to Phuket for example where everyone is
running after the tourists.
Along the coast extends a 20 - 30 m wide light-yellow sandy
beach for approximately 20 km. This starts in the north with
the Pak Meng beach - at the horizon some bizarre rock
formations -Further south Chang beach joins the stretch, the Bae
- Na hill nearby has some ancient rock paintings to show.
Pine trees line the sand, actually one wishes for palms, but
well, we cannot have everything.
In general, Trang is quiet
and has a low profile
but its a great holiday destination for
the traveler who want to get rid of the normal stuff, feel
good, and have a good life.
You can wade far into the water
it’s only sand with few stones or corals always very flat,
wear shoes or diving boots to protect your feet.
A
whole lot of Islands invites a Robinson play, one of the
more interesting and bigger is Ko Muk, (Ko or Koh for
island).
Libong island is interesting for birdwatcher, specifically
during the “colder” season (December - April) waders can be
spotted, like Crab Plover, Joo Hoy Cape and Toog Beach are a
good watching site.
On the Islands you may see otters, water monitor, pacific
reef-egret, white-bellied sea eagle, monitor lizards,
longtail macaques, dusky langurs, wild boar, pangolin,
little heron etc. The sea grass beds are the spawning and feeding area
for diverse species like fish, prawns, turtle, and the dugong.
An appreciable canoe tour is offered to the Chao May Cave.
All this are one of the best
hidden secrets in the Thailand tourism world. This area of
southern Thailand is probably together with Phang Nga and
Krabi one of the best vacation spots for beach vacation in
southern Thailand.
As you can see in the
pictures, photos and videos this area its hardly to beat
for a great south east Asia holiday. We also included a
map to give you a idea about the location.
There are plenty of beach resorts, either as simple accommodations,
beach bungalows or cottages. Its a perfect hideaway for
people who want to get away, maybe for honeymooners or
others who are just fed up to have all this nonsense around. Trang in Thailand is for vacations with great
weather, beaches, islands just the right travel Thailand
spot. The archipelago consists of dozens of limestone islands
with caves, beaches, underwater caves and what is called
“hongs” in Thai, means caves where the ceiling collapsed due to
erosion over time and which are accessible by
swimming or diving through a channel to enter,
usually they have a small beach inside as you can
see in the pictures of the Morakot cave.
Trang province
probably has the
best nature spots in the whole area between
Phuket and the Malaysian border, amazingly
there are almost no tourists around, this is
a real insider destination. The thing is
there is only a very limited hotel and
resorts infrastructure. A good example is
that in the whole province is only one
bigger beach resort, that's the Amari at Pak Meng
Beach south.
The most famous of
this is the Morakot or Emerald Cave. There are plenty of
hotels, beach resorts, restaurants and a tendency to
ecotourism and Thai adventures travel, plenty of
white sand beaches are around.
This cave is
probably the best sightseeing attraction in
the archipelago, it's just amazing what
mother nature is producing by coincident and
lets us share this stunning islands, caves,
sea side for pleasure.
Limestone Island
I guess we
better say thank you to mother nature to be
nice to us. more
