One of
the most attractive Phuket Peaches is Bangtao
Beach, around 6km of light yellow sand and has the
high-end luxury resort area of Phuket Laguna behind,
Phuket Laguna is less than half
way between Phuket Town and the Phuket International Airport and its
expensive, sometimes very expensive. Laguna Phuket caters the luxury
market for Thai people and foreigners.
Bangtao Beach is a
huge stretch of sand, without people, the people prefer the
pools of the hotels. The little problem is, like everywhere in
Thailand, there are people encroaching the beach, just look at the
photo below, where you can see slum structures on a luxury beach. Erecting huge
structures for restaurants right on the beach, its illegal but money
makes it possible. The usual stuff on a beach in Thailand is offered
plus a few restaurants right on the beach and the textile and
beachwear shops.
Several Phuket luxury hotels, luxury
villas and expensive shopping at Canal Village are behind
Bangtao Beach , the only low price offerings are in the mini mart
supermarket
There is also a well stocked wine and
champagne section in this small supermarket. The supermarket
sells less whisky now but more vodka, times are changing.
In the last 2 years 2007-2008 a
dramatic change of visitors has taken place in Phuket, many
European and "western" people disappeared and Russians, Kazakhstan
people, Uzbekistani etc. moved in. The statistics of the Thai TAT
counts the people but don't know that the new tourists spend much
less, that means the small Thai people, shop owners etc. suffer.

I asked a lady who owns a shop in this
area how she can find out who are the ones from this destinations,
she said, very simple, Russians etc. never smile and don't speak any
English. |

Behind Bangtao Beach to the north are
some more great Phuket beaches, like Nai Thon Beach,
Nai Yang Beach and
Mai Khao Beach. All have their
special touch. Like Nai Yang Beach for kite surfing, Nai Thon Beach
for to be alone on the beach and Mai Khao Beach for the upscale
beach resort market. |

Karon beach is a rather quiet beach area
at Phuket west coast just 5 minutes
south of Patong.
There are
a few Karon beach resort
but only the southernmost has a
direct access to the beach. Karon beach resort & restaurants are
usually cut off from the beach by the beach road in between.
Since the
Karon beach road is not so
busy and at the exit from every Karon beach hotel a security guard
is placed who stop the traffic for the people who want to cross no problem is arising. |
