Several
ferries serve Koh Chang out of Laem Ngop
about 20
km northwest of Trat City. The nearest is center point ferry but
it might be advisable to use a other one further north due to
congestion.
Buy the
ticket only at the ferry entrance directly since the down town
taxis will always try to drop you at a preferred ticket vendor where
they can get commission on your expenses, naturally.
Don't
listen to anyone just go to the market at the main road in Trat city
and ask for transportation to the center point ferry -that's the
nearest-, talk only with the driver of the taxi and fix the deal. If
you don't do it directly with the driver the guy who will bring you
to the taxi will get commission from the taxi driver at your
expense.
Its a
real hit and run business you are the object of money pulling,
prices are between 50 - 200 baht.
Koh Mak,
Koh Wai and Koh Kham are served from the Kromluang Pier next to
the Laem Ngop war memorial. If you want to go to Koh Kood take
a boat from Laem Sok about 30 kilometer from Trat.

Ships to Koh Chang leave regularly from 7 am morning till 7 pm
every hour. The ferries to Koh Chang also carry cars, trucks and
motorcycle.
When you
arrive at the pier at Koh Chang, there are some pick up taxis
waiting to bring the Koh Chang ferry pax to the preferred beach or
hotel. |

Arriving at the Koh Chang at
the pier 2 shops renting out motorcycle wait for you. If
you take a motorcycle 150 - 200 Baht -for a automatic- per
day inspect the motorcycle carefully and make a picture if
there are any scratches or damages, if you don't do it,
write it down and have it signed they will let you pay
merciless.
Koh Chang is Thailand's
second largest island -after Phuket- the size is 429
sq.km. Trat's province has 51more islands and the number one
visited is Koh Chang.
Of all the Koh Chang beaches
White Sand Beach is the busiest beach with accommodation
of every level plus restaurants and bars. Koh Chang
White Sand Beach itself is about 2 kilometers long and the
best areas is from the midsection to the north end.
Many shops, minimarts like 7-11, internet cafes,
banks, the notorious Indian tailors etc. line the main road
which runs behind the Koh Chang hotel and resorts.
Luckily there is no road between the beach and the
Koh Chang hotel and resorts. If you stay on one of the Koh
Chang beach hotel and resorts you can walk from the room
directly to the beach.
Room prices hover around Baht
2000.- for the beach front and around Baht 1500,- at the
other side of the road.
There are some upper market
Koh Chang beach hotel and resorts like the Siam Beach
Resort at Siam Beach from about Baht 2500,- and the Dusit Koh
Chang beach Resort for about Baht 6000,- . Keep in mind that
almost all Koh Chang beach hotel and resorts will add plus -
plus to your bill which will increase your bill by about
20%.
Koh Chang is a real
attraction as you can see at the Koh Chang photos or
pictures here. But several areas like Koh Chang White Sand
Beach are a real helter skelter.
A very interesting feature
are the steep hills touching the main circular road,
those hills cant be penetrated that means the island still
has a real nature left dotted with 3 beautiful waterfalls,
take a motorbike and check it out, but be veryyyyyyy careful
with the motorbikes, see the Phuket section for more on

Do some snorkeling or scuba diving in
Koh Chang,
off the southern end of
Koh Chang are some excellent diving
spots . If you want to have it the
Robinson way take a boat to one of the
smaller island just off Koh Chang,
usually you will be alone with the
beach.
The sea around Koh Chang has very
clear water with a marvelous
turquoise or emerald touch, it depends
on the time of the day.
Thai Massage is offered at any hotel
and on many spots along the streets.
Some of the tough lady doing the massage
-the ladies mostly come from Isaan,
that's Thailand's north east- let you
feel the massage the rough way. Thai
Massage is a offspring of Yoga and the
ladies uses all what they have like
legs, hands, knees plus feet to work on
you.
